Keio Academy of New York held its 25th anniversary ceremony this past Saturday, November 21st. Blessed with beautiful weather, the ceremony was attended by a total of about 800 people including guests, students, parents, and faculty and staff members.
The first part of the event included ceremonial addresses by Headmaster Fumihiko Kono, Keio University President Atsushi Seike, and Board of Trustees Chairperson Jiro Kokuryo as well as a message from The Honorable Ron Belmont, Mayor/Supervisor of the Town/Village of Harrison. He concluded his message by presenting the headmaster with an official proclamation that declared the date “Keio Academy Day” in the Town/Village of Harrison. Also making their remarks were representatives of the school’s alumni and the current student body, Trustee Kentaro Tsurushima of the Class of 1995 and Student Government President Akira Ando, respectively.
The second part of the ceremony was enlivened by a cheerleading performance by the Keio University Cheerleading Club. 5 members of the club joined by 7 of our students led the entire gymnasium in singing Wakakichi and other Keio fight songs, and wrapped up the performance with a chant.
A reception was later held at the nearby Doral Arrowwood Hotel starting at 5:30pm. We were honored with the presence of about 200 guests including donors, Mitakai members, and parents in addition to other members of the school community.
Speeches by President Seike and Headmaster Kono were followed by remarks from Promoters’ Association President Osamu Nagayama. Promoters’ Association Vice President Goro Kamino then made a toast, and guests enjoyed pleasant conversation with each other over dinner.
In the front corner of the ballroom for easy viewing, the Academy set up a gallery of campus photos taken through the seasons. Ms. Katsuki and Ms. Saeki, both instructors from the Music Department, also offered a lovely performance on the piano, euphonium, and flute.
After a speech by Trustee Roy Ashikari, Trustee Kokuryo made the event’s closing remarks.
We would like to extend our deepest appreciation for your tremendous support and cooperation.
